Traditional authorities in the Kintampo Municipality have appealed to the government not to take hasty decisions that would affect the smooth running of the College of Health and Well-Being, Kintampo (CoHK). Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kintampo on behalf of the chiefs, Nana Effah Guakuro IV, the chief of Kyeremankuma, said their attention had been drawn to a directive from the Ministry of Health (MoH), Accra, asking the Rector of the College, Dr. Emmanuel Teye Adjase, to proceed on leave. He said the letter followed recent disturbances in the College while the Rector was away on official duties outside the country. Nana Effah Guakuro said as chiefs representing their people, �we cannot dictate to the government but as opinion leaders of the land, we are interested in development and welfare of our citizens�. He said within one year the College had won three international awards �one of which all of us joined in its celebration in August 2013.� The Chief said the number of academic programmes being run by the College at various levels had been increased from four to 14 in the last decade, adding �we are also aware of the massive infrastructural development taking place at the College including acquisition of additional acres of land for expansion to a University�. He said they were also equally impressed with the College fostering partnership with foreign universities and organisations to enhance quality of teaching and learning and that seminars with their outreach components had over the years assisted the people of Kintampo and its environs with their health needs. Nana Effah Guakro therefore pleaded with the government to ensure the Health Ministry gives fair-hearing to the Rector and Management to react to the issues raised against the Rector. �We also call on the Ministry of Health to diffuse the rumour that somebody else from one of the Community Health Schools has been appointed to take over the Management of the College�, he added.
