The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, has paid glowing tribute to the late Maulvi Dr Wahab Adam, the Ameer and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, for his contribution to peace and the development of the country.
He described Dr Adam as a courteous, charming and great personality who dedicated his life to his nation.
Mr Amissah-Arthur was speaking at the Flagstaff House in Accra yesterday, when he received a delegation from the Ahmadiyya Mission, led by the acting Ameer, Maulvi Mohammed Bin-Salih, that informed the government about the death of Maulvi Dr Adam.
Burial arrangements
The delegation also informed the government of the burial and funeral arrangements of the Muslim cleric. Burial rites for him are slated for June 25, 2014, subject to the approval of the worldwide spiritual leader of the Ahmadiyya Mission. The burial ceremony will be preceded by a funeral prayer (Janaiza) at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.
Maulvi Adam died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra on June 22, 2014, after a protracted illness.
Conbtribution to society
The Vice-President recalled that during his lifetime, the Ameer often encouraged the youth, especially girls, to pursue higher education. He added that Maulvi Adam was held in high esteem because he used his membership of the National Peace Council to champion the cause of peace, religion and morality.
He expressed the government�s condolences to the bereaved family and promised that the state would participate fully in the funeral.
The Vice-President also said he would convey the mission�s message to President John Mahama, who was out of the country at the time of the delegation�s visit.
