Man Loses Teeth Over Toilet Fees

A Petty trader has two of his teeth removed in a scuffle with a driver over the payment of toilet fee. The driver, Stephen Chinedu Salor, who allegedly used his fist to break the teeth of the petty trader (complainant), has been put before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Audrey Kocuvie-Tay. Salor, who has been charged with causing harm, has failed to appear before the trial judge, neither has he sent a written letter to the court explaining the reason for his absence. A bench warrant has therefore been issued for his arrest. Chief Inspector Georgina Agbodoka, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant is a petty trader while the accused persons is driver, both of who live at Achimota, a surburb of Accra. According to her, on April 30, 2014 around 8:00 am, a witness in the case who is a public toilet attendant, engaged Chinedu Salor to temporarily man the toilet for him so that he could go and buy some food. Chief Inspector Agbodoka said not long after the witness had left, the complainant came to attend natures call without paying any money. She stated that when the toilet attendant returned Chinedu Salor complained to him (attendant) that the petty trader had come to use the facility without paying any pesewa. According to the prosecutor, soon after Chinedus complainant, the petty trader came back to pay the fee to the actual attendant and so an argument ensured between him (CHinedu Salor), according to Chief Inspector Georgina Agbodoka, hit the upper teeth of the trader (complainant) with his fist and broke some of them. Narrating further, she said that Salor also sustained some minor injuries. The petty trader went and lodged a complaint with the police that same day and was issued with a form to go to the hospital. The police officer told the court that sensing that he could be arrested for the offence, Chinedu also rushed to the hospital for treatment. She said the suspect told the police that he was rather assaulted by the complainant with a broken bottle, but when the police went to the scene of the incident, they did not find traces of broken bottle. She said the accused was therefore dragged to the court after the police had concluded investigations.
