TMA, LEKMA, ASHMA Resolve Boundary Dispute

Boundary disputes between the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and its sister Assemblies have been successfully resolved, Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, disclosed on Monday. Mr Odamtten said the boundary disputes between the TMA and the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) and the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) were resolved by a committee tasked by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to look into the issue. He however indicated that the dispute between TMA and the Kpone-Katamanso District Assembly (KKDA), which was created out of the TMA, was yet to be resolved. The boundary disputes between the TMA and the various Assemblies have been in existence for some time now, leading to loss of revenue, as the companies situated within the disputed areas could not identify which assembly had the legitimacy to collect taxes and levies from them. The MCE explained that the committee agreed that areas from the Sakumono junction through to the location of the Coca Cola Company on the Spintex Road and the motorway falls under TMA not LEKMA. Mr Odamtten further said Adjei-Kojo and its south and south-east areas are part of the TMA jurisdiction while all the irrigation lands belong to ASHMA. He stated that even though the final verdict on the dispute between the TMA and the KKDA was yet to be given, TMA was optimistic that it would not lose major companies such as the Tema Oil Refinery, Nestle Ghana Limited and PZ Cussons Limited to their sister Assembly. He allayed fears of the Assembly members on losing revenue areas to the KKDA ,stating that, TMA stands to maintain what the Legislative Instrument (LI) that established it acquisitioned to it.
