President Mahama Assures Mali Of Continuous Support

President John Dramani Mahama on Friday gave the assurance that Ghana and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) would continue to offer their support to Mali to regain political stability. He said although Mali dropped into a political turmoil a few years ago, there were a lot of prospects for the West African state to regain her past glories and political stability that would attract investment and development. President Mahama gave the assurance when Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita called on him at the Sidelines of the African Union 23rd ordinary session at the Sipopo conference centre in Malabo. Both leaders are in Equatorial Guinea to attend the AU ordinary session that is focused on agriculture, food security, agricultural mechanisation and industrialisation in Africa. President Mahama stated as the chair of the ECOWAS, he would continue to coordinate activities that would enhance lasting peace, unity, growth and development to Mali, whose development agenda got derailed a couple of years ago owing to political crisis. He said ECOWAS would hold another meeting on July 10 in Accra, and the issues of Mali would feature prominently on the agenda to find lasting solutions to the challenges in the Sahelian country. The President said Ghana and Mali had historical relations and his administration would make the necessary follow- ups to strengthen their ties and create mutual benefits in the coming years. He appealed to the people of Mali to exercise restraint and unite for the purpose of growth and development of their country. President Keita promised to consult his Ghanaian counterpart on matters relating to peace, unity and good governance to stem the political divisions that had been created in the past.
