Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been placed under formal investigation after being held in Police custody for questioning over suspected influence peddling. He was held for questioning for 15 hours over suspicions that he used his influence to secure leaked details of an inquiry into alleged irregularities in his 2007 election. The Gaddafi investigation is also ongoing. Separately, Mr Sarkozy has recently been linked to a scandal over the funding of his campaign for re-election in 2012. He has also been implicated in a number of other scandals which are still being investigated.
