Ghanaian Appointed UN Military Chief

The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, has appointed Major General Delali Johnson Sakyi, as the Chief Military Observer and Head of Mission for United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). A UN statement described Maj-General Sakyi as a soldier with more than 35 years military command and staff experience, at national and international levels. The profile indicates that he served most recently as Force Commander for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan. He also served as Abidjan Sector Commander of the United Nations Operation in C�te d�Ivoire from 2008 to 2009, and Commander of the Ghana contingent in four UN and two ECOWAS peacekeeping operations Maj-General Sakyi has a Bachelor�s Degree in Public Administration. He is a graduate of the Command and Staff College, Accra, Ghana; the Army High Command Course, Army Command College, Nanjing, China; and the ECOWAS Senior Mission Leaders Course, Abuja, Nigeria Maj-General Sakyi succeeds Maj-General Young-Bum Choi of the Republic of Korea, who completed his two-year assignment on June 16 this year.
