Thirty teachers from deprived communities in the Nkoranza North District Directorate of Education have received incentive packages estimated at about GH�4,500. The package that the Ghana Partnership for Education Grant (GPEG) sponsored included gas cylinders, television sets, standing fans and rechargeable lamps. It was based on recommendations by the Nkoranza North District Education Oversight Committee (DEOC) to encourage other teachers to accept postings to deprived communities. Mr James Appiah-Kusi, Nkoranza North District Director of Education, presented the package and said it formed part of the non-salary packages of the GPEG for deprived education districts to improve on education. He expressed appreciation to the GPEG for assisting the directorate to solve some its challenges and commended the beneficiaries for staying in the communities for more than 10 years to promote education and development. Mr Seth Badu, Nkoranza North District Deputy Director of Education, urged other teachers to emulate the beneficiaries and assist in enhancing education. He commended the circuit supervisors and subject teachers in the district for travelling long distances and the communities for supporting the teachers. Mr Emmanuel Opoku-Wiafe, a retired educationist and Chairman of the Nkoranza North Distict Education Oversight Committee (DEOC), appealed to teachers to live above reproach because they are role models. He urged teachers to actively involve themselves in extra-curricular activities and to support community development programmes.
