Five suspected armed robbers, including a house-boy who allegedly contracted four others to attack his employer, have been arrested. Bright Agbesi, 20, had contracted the robbers to attack his employer, an Indian gold dealer, for failing to motivate him financially. But the police, acting on intelligence, foiled the robbery operation by intercepting the gang leader, who had in his possession guns, other weapons, a knife and a mask. The arrest of the gang leader, Joseph Tommy, 42, a self-styled freelance preacher, led to the arrest of the other members of the gang � Abraham Ayimbila, alias Azeeman, 32, driver; Abubakar Sadiq, alias Hego, 28, cattle farmer, and Samuel Bright, a 20-year-old student. Booty to be shared Briefing the media yesterday, the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Christian Tetteh Yohonu, said the robbers were arrested on July 1, 2014. He said on June 28, 2014, Agbesi, who lived in Accra with his employer, consulted Tommy, who is based in Kumasi, and told him that his employer had been counting money each night but had failed to motivate him financially. Tommy, according to the police, engaged the other robbers with the intention of robbing the gold dealing company and sharing the booty. Mr Yohonu said Tommy travelled from Kumasi to inspect the employer�s offices at Tesano in Accra. Police informed The police said Ayimbila and Sadiq had supplied the arms for the operation, including a foreign pistol with four ammunition, and a locally manufactured gun with one cartridge. Later, Tommy engaged another man for the execution of the operation. The two agreed to meet at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra about 6 p.m, on July 1, 2014. Unknown to Tommy, the contact, whose name is being withheld, had alerted the Kumasi Police of the intended operation. Upon arrival at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Tommy was arrested while he was handing over the weapons to the contact and Samuel Bright. Advice Mr Yohonu said during interrogation, Tommy admitted the intended action and pleaded to be allowed to call the other suspects and the police obliged the request. Consequently, Agbesi arrived at Caprice in a taxi from Abelemkpe, to collect his share of the booty and was arrested, while Ayimbila and Abubakar also travelled from Kumasi to Accra for their share and were arrested. Mr Yohonu advised the public to beware of the people they invited into their homes or employed. �Our observation is that most of the robbery incidents are engineered by insiders,� he said, and urged employers to deal with their employees fairly.
