Kofi Boakye�s Men Arrest More Armed Robbers

DCOP KOFI Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander has appealed to residents of the Ashanti Region to assist the police with accurate and appropriate information to curb armed robbery and other criminal activities in the region. DCOP Boakye made the appeal at a press briefing to announce the arrest of a number of suspected armed robbers. The suspects are reported to be harassing residents of Kotei New site, Deduako, KNUST, Ejisu and its environs. DCOP Boakye explained that in line with transparency and accountability to the public, his men are on the ground in making sure that criminal activities in the region had been minimized. According to him, the Ashanti Regional Police Command in recent times have been battling with residential robberies in and around Kotei New site, Deduako, KNUST, Ejisu and its environs, as a result of which the Regional Police Command instituted a series of operational strategies to track the perpetrators of such violent crimes and bring them to book. He said the Regional CID on the July 7, 2014, arrested four suspected criminals believed to be behind the robberies in the vicinity. He mentioned the four as Sheriff Abdulai Asofo, 18, an illegal miner, Sadick Mohammed, alias �Zinga�, 30, Daniel Gyamfi, alias JD, 28, unemployed, and Zakiya Abdulai Asofo, 18, a student, noted to be a specialist in robbing electronic gadgets. The Police boss indicated that intelligence also has it that the four arrested robbers and 10 others currently on the run embarked on robbery sprees and after they have succeeded in robbing their victims, sent the stolen items to one Fred Owusu, alias �Akwasi�, 28, an IT specialist, who subsequently deletes all the data on the gadgets and sell them to Enoch Ofori Sarpong, alias D12, aged 20, unemployed and Kwame Moro, alias FADA 3, who also sells them to the final buyer, Nasiru Mohammed, alias �Baranton�, 33, a trader. The four buyers of the stolen items, who he said were consequently arrested through police intelligence, led them to also arrest the four robbers and disclosed that all the suspects are currently in custody and assisting the police in investigations. Meanwhile, the other suspects who have been mentioned to be among the robbery gang have been declared wanted by the Regional Police Command. A search in Zakiya�s room revealed an Argentine made pistol with five rounds of live ammunition, mobile phone accessories, computer accessories and a cash of GH�9,300. He appealed to robbery victims, especially in Ejisu, Kotei, KNUST and the surrounding areas to come and help identify the suspects. Some of the items Enoch Ofori Sarpong sold to Nashiru Mohammed included phones (GalaxyS3), Laptop (HP), Phone (Nexus) 2 laptops, Ipad Air, Iphone CDMA Digital camera, Mobile phones, 3 laptops Batteries, 3 Black Mak and 3 laptop chargers. Other items include cannon video camera, Panasonic Digital camera, 9 caps, 1 laptop, 2 laptop Bags, cash of GH�4,280, 5 Watches, 4 Memory cards, 5 Necklaces and other valuable items from the other suspects.
