Prez Mahamas Recent Reshuffle...Casualties Galore

His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, 16th July, 2014, released his final list of ministerial reshuffle. Even though the exercise has been described by some as musical chairs, the president pulled a surprise by nominating Mr Ekow Spio-Garbrah, former CEO of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation as Minister for Trade and Industry. Interestingly, some of the big shots of the ruling National Democratic Congress appear to have been axed. Kwesi Ahwoi, who was with the Interior Ministry, surprisingly lost his position to Mark Owen Woyongo. The other casualties include: Nii Armah Ashietey, Minister for Employment and Labour Relations who lost his position to Haruna Iddrisu; the position of Mr Nayon Bilijo, Minister of Fisheries, has been given to Madam Sherry Ayittey. Rachel Appoh, Deputy Minister of Children, Gender and Social Protection who was always complaining of unfairness on the part of her boss, Nana Oye Lithur, seems to have been given the boot; for now. The rest are Clement Kofi Humado of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Dr Joe Oteng-Agyei, formerly Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Dr Ephraim Avea Nsoh of the Upper East Region, Ebenezer Kwadwo Teye Addo, Central Region; Abu Kabiebata Kansangbata, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister and Samuel Yaw Adusei, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister. Before his final reshuffle list became public knowledge, President Mahama wrote a Green Letter to staff at the Flagstaff House, the seat of government thanking them for their service and dedication to Mother Ghana and the NDC administration. This sent chills down the spine of most of the appointees since they didnt know who will be given the boot or who will stay. Be that as it may, Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana gives the President the right to choose who he will work with and so even if these ministers who have been removed have any grievances, they cannot do anything except go by the Presidents orders. Below is a reproduction of the Green Letter the President reportedly gave to each Flagstaff House appointee as published by the Daily Guide newspaper. Portfolios of Presidential Staffers May I use this opportunity to express my profound gratitude for the service you have rendered to the nation in your various positions as staffers in the Office of the President. I intend in the near future to make certain changes and/or re-assignment of portfolios in the Office of the President. Please stand by, as the changes will be communicated to you in due course. It is in my prayer that God will grant you the grace to apply yourself diligently and effectively to whatever position or situation you find yourself in.
