The prices of food items, clothing and plastic products have shot up in the central business district of the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly. A market survey conducted by the GNA has revealed that the fall of the cedi contributed to this upward adjustment in prices coupled with the increment in petroleum prices. Madam Martha Mensah, a cloth seller, said half a piece of cloth which sold between 70 and 75 cedis is now GH�80. She said plain printex cloth that sold around GH�45 is currently going for GH�55 with hitarget an imported print going for GH�45 as against the previous price of GH�40. Funeral cloth which used to sell at GH�50 is now GH�65 per yard. Food stuffs and cooking oils price has also recorded some marginal increment of between one cedi and five cedis. A �Luka� of bean is GH�15 cedis compared to the previous price of 12 cedis, groundnut GH�14 as against GH�9, millet from GH�5 cedis to GH�6 cedis, a ball of maize now sells at GH�8 from GH�6 with onions going for between 10 and 12 cedis though it previously sold at GH�7. Mr. Ali Bawa, a meat seller, told the GNA that all kinds of meat products had been increased by GH�2. A bag of rice has moved from 90 to 94 cedis, a box of sachet frytol now sells at GH�60 from GH�54.
