Work on the reconstruction of a bridge that links Dome to Kwabenya, two adjoining communities in Accra, is underway. The construction, which is being carried out by Capital Line Group (CLG) Limited, a construction firm, is expected to be completed within three months. When the bridge project is completed, it would pave the way for the free flow of vehicular movement and other economic activities between the two communities. It became necessary for the government to award a contract for the reconstruction of the bridge after it was destroyed in a recent rainstorm. The road leading to the intersection of the two communities had been diverted through Lolla Baby, a popular drinking spot towards the Atomic Junction. Under the contract, the company is expected to put in place bigger culverts capable of carrying away huge volumes of rain water that passes through the area whenever it rains. Construction progress Briefing journalists in Accra last Tuesday, the Chief Executive Officer of CLG Limited, Mr Benjamin Nii Commey Otoo, said so far, about 35 per cent of the construction works had been done. According to him, when completed, the bridge would address motoring challenges that motorists and commuters faced in both Dome and Kwabenya. �We want the bridge to be as good as the road such that it can withstand the pressures of floods at all times,� he said. Mr Otoo said his company was expected to hand over the bridge on schedule. Residents appreciation Some residents the Daily Graphic interviewed expressed appreciation to the government for funding the project. According to Mr Eric Gyan, ever since the bridge caved in, business activities between the two communities had slowed down. �Many residents of Dome have to walk for hours to connect to Kwabenya,� he said.
