Nana Addo Fulfils Promise To Market Fire Victims

The two-times presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, brought smiles to the faces of victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Kumasi Central Market on Wednesday, when he donated 100 bags of cement towards the ongoing reconstruction of the burnt portion of the market. The donation was in fulfilment of a promise made to them last Saturday, when he visited the scene to console traders whose stores were burnt by last week Thursdays inferno. The presentation was made on behalf of the former NPP presidential candidate by the Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, and other members of the campaign team, including Mr. George Ayisi-Boateng, a founding member, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Mponua, Isaac Asiamah. The items are expected to be utilised for the reconstruction of the market pathways for the benefit of all the victims of the disaster. Mr. George Ayisi-Boateng told The Chronicle after the presentation that the gesture demonstrates Nana Addos resolve to improve the socio-economic conditions of the traders, and to enable them bounce back to business as soon as possible. He said the swift manner in which the promise was fulfilled by the two-times presidential candidate, epitomises his credibility and reliability as a leader, stressing Nana Addo is someone who promises and delivers. Mr. Ayisi-Boateng said he was hopeful the donation would go a long way to lighten the burden of the affected traders, who are still counting their losses as a result of the inferno. Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, also said the party would stand by the traders whose sweat and contributions continue to keep business activities in Kumasi moving. He pledged that better times were ahead, and called on the traders to exercise restraint in the midst of moribund economic conditions under the President Mahama-led administration.
