Athletes To Pocket $2,200 Each As Per Diems At Glasgow

Each athlete in Team Ghana at the ongoing 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, will pocket 2,200 USD as per diems representing 100 dollars each day. The amount, covers 10 days of pre-tournament preparations and 12 days of participation in the Commonwealth Games, also known as �Family Games� summing up to 22 days. The figure and the number of days were prior to Sunday, July 27, a subject of intense negotiations between the athletes and the officials with regards to the number of days to be paid for the pre-tournament preparations. GNA Sports gathers that, the negotiations led by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Vincent Oppong Asamoah, officials of the National Sports Authority (NSA), the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) ended up successfully and this paved way for the payment of the per diems on Sunday, July 27. According to the information, the decision to clear the per diems were part of the measures to boost the morale of the athletes to deliver some medals for the nation in the four day old event. However, per diems of officials were yet to be settled following the decision of the Ministry to give adequate attention to the athletes according to a close source in the camp. Ghana, has so far bagged only one medal in Judo category in the four day old competition.
