Businessman Advocates Setting-up Of Macroeconomic Policy Co-ordinating Committee

Mr John Kofi Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of First Capital Plus, has advocated the establishment of a Macro-economic Policy Coordinating Committee for developing economies. He said this was necessary for economics, where monetary and fiscal policies were controlled by two different units. He said the committee, which should be an independent, non-partisan think-tank, would objectively analyze, at any point in time, the correlation between monetary, and fiscal policies in achieving set goals. Mr Mensah made the call at the Second University of Ghana Business School's Conference on Business and Development, on the theme: Sustainable and Enterprise Development, in Accra on Tuesday. The conference sought to unearth answers concerning how enterprises and institutions could be built for posterity. The CEO said lack of adequate information allowed enterprises to make wrong choices in the type of financing for their businesses. He urged government to spearhead the drive to encourage innovation, and promote access to technology and develop sustainable local enterprises. Mr Mensah said there should be a leveraging of knowledge for the enhancement of entrepreneurship by academia, calling on policy makers to promulgate stable polices that provided sustainable support, guidance, and encouraged investment by the private sector. He said currently, most private enterprises were focused on surviving than pursuing strategic objectives which were necessary for growth in the private enterprise. Professor Joshua Abor, Vice Dean of UGBS, said the conference would deliberate on issues regarding theories, frameworks and empirical evidence on the conditions and tools for promoting and managing sustainable innovation and business model. He said it would also cover sustainability policies, in addition to the strategies of firms and governments, accounting, assurance and communication. Other thematic areas of this years conference include fiscal policy and sustainable development, marketing communication and consumer behaviour, information and communication technology and sustainability, gender equity and sustainability and climate change and sustainable development.
