Mahama Boys Trade Blows Over NDC Elections

In a shocking twist of events heralding the opening of the much touted Conference of Public Service Chief Executives, Directors and Chairpersons of Governing Boards in Kumasi, two notable Mahama Boys were seen at the precincts of the Kumasi Golden Tulip trading blows and insults at each other. The two, Commander PMG Griffitts, a retired army officer and Board Chair of the Ghana Shippers Authority as well as Yaw Obimpeh, the embattled Ashanti Regional Chair of the ruling NDC were at each others throat amid near fisticuffs even as the Vice President, Paa Kwasi Amissah-Arthur was readying to deliver the Keynote address at the all-important conference. Describing the scene to GO minutes after the duo had been allegedly separated by the Chief Executive Officer of Cocobod, Dr. Stephen Opuni, a source said the Golden Tulip premises at a point became a karate ground as supporters of both parties were literally engaged in a free for all fight. The source hinted that the brawl started as a mere confrontation between the two when Dr. Stephen Opuni allegedly tried to force a handshake between the Regional Chair and the Shippers Council Board Chair. But it all turned bloody as Yaw Obimpeh amidst insults nearly poked his hand into the eye of the retired Army officer for spearheading a hate campaign for his retention as Regional Chair. The Regional Chairman, according to our source, accused Commander Griffitts of bad-mouthing him both in government circles and also within the party. This blistering attack by Yaw Obimpeh, our source said, at a point infuriated the Army Officer who also angrily pushed Yaw Obimpeh aside threatening to twist further the bent waist of the embattled regional Chair. The retired officer is alleged to have whacked his fingers in the face of the embattled Chair and was only restrained by a security officer close by. Not even the promptings of the Security Detail that the Vice President is close by could calm both combatants down as they poured vituperative insults on each other. Sensing danger of how the unfolding disgraceful act could bring to the party and the function in particular, Kojo Bonsu, Metro Chief Executive of Kumasi reportedly jumped into the fray and with the assistance of Dr. Opuni separated the two. It was at the juncture that the retired Army Officer threatened to ensure Yaw Obimpeh does not return as Regional Chair of the party. He is said to have accused the Obimpeh led administration for engaging in dubious government contract deals, adding that this is running the party down in the region. Commander Griffitts also accused the current regional executives for perpetrating acts that have rendered the party unattractive to people in the Ashanti region.
