A group, calling itself Assembly Members Volunteer Club, has pledged their support for the 2012 flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to lead the party again come 2016.
The assembly members, who are members of various District Assemblies in the Ashanti region, say having been in touch with the base of the people, from where almost all the votes come from, they have realised that Nana Addo stands the brightest chance of winning power for the NPP.
Assembly Member for Dichemso, Kwabena Senkyire, who is the Director of Operations for the group, speaking to journalists after their declaration in Kumasi, said the club had been formed nationwide because their other colleagues have also come to the same realisation.
�As assemblymen we are feeling the heat of the bad governance of the Mahama-led administration because we are in constant touch with the people in our communities, and they are always complaining of hardship in the country.
�if those who voted us into power are going through hardship then you should know what we are going through since we live with them in the same communities,� Kwabena Senkyire noted.
The AMVC, he said, had also realised that the NDC rigged the last general election at the polling stations, hence vowed to resist any such attempts in future elections, saying �we will police the ballot boxes like never before.�
They also announced their intention to bear the cost of the upcoming voter registration and ensure that every eligible voter in Ashanti, especially, and the country as a whole registers since they believe every upcoming voter would vote against the NDC.
�Looking at all what has transpired in the country after the 2012 General Elections, there is no doubt that God is with Nana Addo and he is the chosen one. We are very convinced that he will win come 2016,� he said confidently.
Nana Addo on his part expressed gratitude to the assembly members for their support but said what is most important is �your intention to fight the incompetent NDC party out of government.�
Nana Addo said he is now focusing on his flag-bearer ambition and was hoping he wins the bid to lead the party for the 2016 elections, adding that he will work with the AMVC.
