President John Dramani Mahama on Friday expressed satisfaction at the rate of construction works on the eastern part of Accra roads after a two- hour inspection of the projects. The projects are; the Giffard 37 Military Hospital road to La Palm Junction at La, the Congo junction- Burma Camp by-pass, Burma Camp-Teshie bush road through Trade Fair site and the Burma Camp- Spintex road connection. The projects, which started almost two years ago, are expected to be completed by the end of this year to ease congestion on the Spintex and Tema motorway roads in the coming years. Apart from the roads, there will be an interchange at the Congo junction, improvement on the Teshie township roads, and total improvement on the Burma Camp roads as supplementary projects. President Mahama commended the contractors for working within the schedule of completion, adding that, their completion would drastically ease traffic congestion on the Spintex, Tema Motorway and beach roads as they would serve as major alternative routes. He said the roads had for some time now, become social issues, forcing people to go onto the streets to demonstrate and complain and appealed to all Ghanaians to exercise restraint as government tackled the projects in turns. "Road construction is very expensive and it is not possible to construct all the roads at the same time, so I will therefore use this opportunity to appeal to all of you to exercise patience until it gets to your turn," he added. Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Minister of Roads and Highways, said apart from constructing new roads in the capital, government was also doing so many things to increase accessibility to roads. He mentioned the rehabilitation of the Tema Motorway and the damaged parts of some major roads in the Metropolis as some of the measures underway to facilitate movement of goods and services. Alhaji Abass Awulu, Chief Director for Urban Roads, who conducted the President round the projects, said on completion, the roads would serve as the first major link from Accra East to the central and Western parts of the city. He urged the contractors to stay focused and work on the projects according to specifications to serve Ghanaians for so many decades.
