The Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira, says neonatal death is a major concern to the service. He said more infant deaths occur within the first 28 days of life and as such more equipment and training of staff among others are needed to help address the issue. Dr Appiah Denkyira mentioned funding as a problem since donor funding to the sector will be reduced following the upgrade of the country to a low middle income status. Other directors of the GHS mentioned rehabilitation of regional medical stores and refusal of doctors to accept posting to the rural area. At the NHIA, the Minister of Health was briefed on what is being done to address the financial challenges facing the Authority.
