Anglican University College of Technology Inaugurates New Council Members

The Anglican Church has inaugurated a 12-member governing council in Accra yesterday to steer the affairs of the Anglican University College of Technology (ANGUTECH). The council, among others is expected to provide attractive courses to train students who would have employable skills, entrepreneurial and technologically skilled for today�s market. Most Reverend Professor Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Chancellor of ANGUTECH disclosed that the university aims to train high level science and technology human resources in a holistic manner and conduct innovative research to provide for the technological skills and extension services for the country. Dignitaries present at the ceremony included; Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah, Deputy Minister of Education in-charge of Tertiary; Former Defence Minister in Kufuor�s regime, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor , Nkoranza North MP, Hon Derek Oduro, Nkoranza South MP, Hon Robert Sarfo-Mensah and the Omanhene of the Nkoranza Traditional area. The 12-member governing council is chaired by Mr. Daniel Owiredu, a Mechanical Engineer and business expert with over 20-years experience in the mining industry. He is currently the Executive Vice President /Chief Operating Officer of Golden Star Resources. It has Most Rev Prof. Daniel Yinkah- Sarfo, the third Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kumasi, and a retired Major of the Ghana Armed Forces as Chancellor and Prof. Albert Addo-Quaye, the Dean , School of Graduate Studies and Research, Central University College as President. The other members of the council include: Justice Mrs. Sophia Adinyira, a Supreme Court Judge; Mrs. Georgina Lartey, an educationist; Rt. Rev Dr. Festus Yeboah-Asuamoah, a Bishop and a former Lecturer; Rev. Canon Samuel Lanquaye Lamptey, a priest and Head of Personnel, Ghana Water Company; Rt. Rev. Dr. Cyril Ben-Smith, a Suffragan Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kumasi; Rev Canon Clement Azure, a teacher. The rest are Mr. Ishmael Oppong , a Mechanical Engineer; Mr. Benjamin Ayittey-Okine, an Information Technology Expert and Mr. Dennis Donkor, a Quantity Surveyor and Construction Technologist. The new chairman, Mr. Daniel Owiredu speaking on behalf of the Council thanked the church for the confidence reposed in them and reiterated their commitment to work hard to uplift the image of the University. The Anglican University College of Technology (ANGUTECH) is a privately owned institution established by the Anglican Church and situated at Nkoranza to provide quality tertiary education to train and develop graduates in the field of Science and Technology. The school has been accredited by the National Accreditation Board to run three new additional courses; BSc. Community Medicine and Health, BSc. Health Information Management and BA Development and Management Studies in addition to the many other programmes offered already. The University which admitted its first batch in October 2013 has it certificates awarded by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
