Boy, 24 Hangs Himself In Kumasi

Residents of Tafo, a suburb of Kumasi were left in a state of shock on Sunday morning after a 24 year old boy decided to end his life by hanging. The lifeless body of Kwasi Sumaila, a Blacksmith at Suame Magazine, was found hanging on a piece of cloth tied to a ceiling fan in a room, in what has left family members in a state of bewilderment. It is not clear what may have caused the deceased to end his life but neighbours are attributing the tragic incident to a curse invoked on him by a young girl whom he picked a fight with few weeks ago. According to reports, prior to his hanging, Sumaila told friends and relatives that he had been having dreams and hearing voices telling him to hang himself. Investigations by The Chronicle revealed that the deceased picked a quarrel with a lady neighbour, Adwoa Nyankomago and in the ensuing confrontation, Sumaila was alleged to have insulted the girls womanhood and accused her of sleeping with men indiscriminately. Adwoa, incensed by the insults, reportedly invoked a curse on him, using a shrine whose name is yet to be identified. Following the curse, the deceased told friends and relatives about the incident and said he had persistently been hearing sub-conscious voices telling him to commit suicide. Information said family members took the incident seriously and contacted the said fetish priest who asked them to present certain items for pacification and revocation. However, reports said whilst the family was preparing to meet the priest on Sunday, they woke up to the tragic scene of the deceased hanging himself. According to friends, Sumaiila unusually refused to sleep in his room and rather chose to sleep in a different room where his body was later found in the morning.
