Its Official! 'Dumsor' Is Back

Officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have been informing various customers who enquire from them the reason for the current erratic supply of electricity that the dreaded loading-shedding exercise is back with us. In the past week, power supply has been intermittent, with some areas having power outages three or more times a day. When the occurrences became an everyday affair for some households and businesses in Kanda, Accra, they informed the "Daily Insight" newspaper to make further enquiries. This was because people at the ECG Customer Service Center were not being consistent in their answers to queries. Furthermore, on two separate occasions; officers had failed to give them a reference number for their complaints. When yesterday, the lights went off in the Kanda Area for the third day running, "The Insight" newspaper phoned the ECG Customer Service Center to ascertain the reason. An officer who identified herself as Belinda Otoo confidently stated that the lights-off in the two previous days might have been due to some local faults. However, she confirmed that the outage yesterday was part of a new load-shedding programme. When asked why this programme had not been publicized, she replied that it had not been because it is not going to be as intensive as the previous one. When she was reminded that it was important to publicize it to enable residents and businesses plan their lives, she stated that she would pass the request on. When informed that the information would be publicized, she replied: it is up to you.
