Road Safety Commission To Effect Spot Fine Soon

The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) will soon put into effect the payment of spot fines by road traffic offenders, Mr David Adonteng, Director of Planning and Programmes of the Commission, has said. He said a technical team on the project had finalised its preparatory work and paved way for the exercise to begin in a few weeks or months. Mr Adonteng, who was addressing a mid-year review of the Commission in Ho, said software for the programme was being tested in a pilot project, adding that the exercise delayed because the system was new to the country for which reason the Commission was ensuring due diligence for a successful implementation. Mr Adonteng said with the new software, once an offenders name was cued into the system, his or her particulars at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) would show up, for him or her to be issued a chit to make payment at an identified bank. He said an international group was in the country to blend local capacities for a successful roll out of the exercise. Mrs May Obiri-Yeboah, Executive Director of the Commission, said he was hopeful the project would promote behaviourial change and ensure further reduction of road crashes. Participants expressed worry about activities of commercial motor cycle operators across the country and the increasing pedestrian knockdowns and said steps had to be taken to ensure sanity on the roads.
