Two Minors In Trouble For Registering In Tema Central

Mr Charles Boateng, Tema Central Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Tuesday, caused the arrest of two minors who registered in the just ended Limited Voter Registration Exercise. Mr Boateng and some NPP polling agents apprehended the minors at the Community 12 Full Gospel Registration centre. He told the Ghana News Agency that a teacher, whose name was only given as Solo, brought the minors to register at the centre. He said Solo absconded when it was detected that the two who had managed to register were minors, adding that he reported the incident to the Tema Metropolitan Office of the Electoral Commission of Ghana. Mr Watson Tizor Apentsui, Tema Metropolitan Electoral Officer, who confirmed the incident to the GNA, said the Identity (ID) cards of the minors had been withheld and their names would be expunged from the register. Meanwhile, more people are trooped to the various registration centres in the Tema Metropolis on the last day of the exercise. When the GNA visited some registration centres, scores of prospective voters were seen patiently waiting in queues for their turn to register, while others had successfully gone through the process and were either taking their pictures or waiting to receive their laminated ID cards. At the Padmore School Centre, a total of 674 people have been registered from the beginning of the exercise with 103 registering on day nine of the 10 day exercise. Mr Prosper Agbovi, Returning Officer of the centre, said as the exercise was nearing its end, the number of people turning up to be registered increased considerably. Mr Agbovi said 45; 77; 68; and 57 were registered on the first, second, third, and fourth days respectively. The 10-day exercise, which began on Monday, August 4, was open to Ghanaians who have attained 18 years since the main registration exercise in 2012, and eligible Ghanaians who were above 18 years during the main registration but could not register.
