Ashanti MPs Declare Support For Nana Addo

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has revealed the rationale for the declaration of support by the majority of Members of Parliament of the New Patriotic Party for Nana Akufo-Addo ahead of the October 18 presidential primary of the party. Speaking at the Cultural Centre, the venue for a meeting between Nana Akufo-Addo and delegates of the NPP from the Ashanti Region, the Minority Leader explained that the decision of the MPs was premised on the fact that Nana Akufo-Addo is the only presidential aspirant who has, over time, expressed his desire to work with them. It is against this background that Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu indicated that the MPs had declared their backing for Nana Addo. He (Nana Akufo-Addo) respected us, called on us and showed us that he is ready to work with us. This is one of the reasons why we (MPs) are ready to back Nana Akufo-Addo, he said. The Minority Leader also called on the partys rank and file to unite behind whoever is elected presidential candidate of the NPP, because there must be unity if we are to win power. The mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy by the NDC, he stressed, is not a pre-requisite for an NPP victory. Hon. K.T Hammond, Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, who also addressed the gathering, re-echoed the sentiments of the Minority Leader by stating that members of Parliament have no problem whatsoever declaring support for Nana Akufo-Addo. It is Akufo-Addos time. The Members of Parliament, who were present at the event and introduced to the gathering by the Minority Leader were Hon. Elizabeth Agyeman, Chair of the caucus of NPP MPs from Ashanti Region, and MP for Oforikrom; Hon. Kweku Kwarteng, MP for Obuasi West; Hon. Daniel Atta Boafo, MP for Fomena; Hon.
