Police Inspector arrested for stealing cables

Police Inspector Emmanuel Ametepeh, stationed at the Gomoa Nyanyano Police Station, has been arrested by the Agona Swedru Patrol team for stealing large quantities of cables being used for the Odoben Self-Help Rural Electrification Project in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District. Chief Superintendent of Police, Issah Ahmed Yakubu, Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander made this known to the Media at Swedru on Friday. He said at about 1900 hours on Friday, police personnel at Agona Asafo Check point intercepted a Samsung Truck carrying the cables with Inspector Ametepeh sitting at the front of the vehicle. According to Chief Superintendent Yakubu, when the personnel on duty demanded to know from the occupants of the vehicle the owner of the cables, Police Inspector Ametepeh claimed ownership. He said after series of interrogations by the Police on duty, the suspect after realizing that "things were becoming difficult for him", jumped from the vehicle and took to his heels. The Divisional Commander said the personnel on duty immediately informed Police Chief Inspector Henry Abbey, Commander of the Patrol Team who sent signals to all the barriers about the dubious behaviour of Inspector Ametepeh. Chief Superintendent Yakubu said about two hours later, Inspector Ametepeh was spotted in the front seat of a taxi, on his way to his station at Nyanyano and was apprehended. He said upon interrogations, Inspector Ametepeh confessed that he led the other accomplice, who is on the run, to a village at Odoben to steal the cables. The Divisional Commander said Mr Isaac Mensah, driver of the vehicle and his mate, who were hired by Inspector Ametepe at Mankessim have been freed. According to him investigations proved that the two were innocent about the theft. Chief Superintendent Yakubu said the cables have been impounded, while Inspector Ametepeh has been placed in Police custody pending orders from Inspector General of Police (IGP).
