Mawutor Agbavitor Eyes NDC Volta Regional Chair

Mr Mawutor Agbavitor, a die-in-the-wool member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region, has declared that he will contest the regional chairmanship of the party. He said he was bringing on board energetic, vibrant leadership, extensive hands-on experience, high trustworthiness, problem solving and teamwork spirit to enhance the fortunes of the NDC in the 2016 election. The Volta Region is acclaimed as the World Bank of the NDC in terms of garnering of votes for the party, but recent expressions of discontent by the chiefs and people of the region over lack of development projects, failed electoral promises and neglect seem to be impacting negatively on the partys fortunes in the region. But in an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Agbavitor, who is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Dominion Properties, gave an assurance that as a chairman of the World Bank, my leadership will ensure Volta has a major say in party policies and how development projects are apportioned in government, as well as work to revive the love and passions of Voltarians towards the NDC. The regional chairman aspirant said NDC winning Election 2016 critically depended on the region and, therefore, pledged to work extra hard to re-engage the citizenry of Volta to rekindle the love and passion for the party. He said as a young, enterprising and energetic person, he was bringing on board proactivity to revitalise the energy and drive of the executives from ward, branch, and constituency to the regional level towards Election 2016. He explained he would do that by working around the clock to engage all critical stakeholders to understand the peculiar needs of each constituency in the region and help find solutions to our challenges through consensus building. he stated. Unity of Volta NDC The regional chairman aspirant said under his administration, he would work assiduously to bring lasting unity to the NDC fraternity in the region. In his view, the seeming North, South and Middle belt divide in the region is a major stumbling block to the strength and power of the party in Volta Region. Under my chairmanship, all lingering doubts and suspicions among the various stakeholders in the region will be given serious attention. This will make the region strong and ready for victory in 2016. This we will achieve under the One Volta" agenda, he declared. The chairman gave the assurance that an NDC administration under him would work to ensure it had a permanent office befitting the regions status as the World Bank of the party. This I will achieve through judicious application and use of party resources and prioritisation of an office space, he explained. Job creation for youth According to Mr Agbavitor, the future of the NDC in the region depended on the partys engagement with the youth, insisting that as a youth myself, I intend to work hard to address the unemployment situation among the youth in the region. He stressed that under his leadership, Volta would fight to have a good quota in the recruitment into the security services such as the Police, Armed, Forces, CEPS, and Fire Service, as well as demand transparency in the award of scholarship schemes which come under the government to ensure that the youth were not disadvantaged. Mr Agbavitor, who is an entrepreneur, said entrepreneurial skills development would also receive critical attention under his leadership, while the youth equally benefit from government funds set up to help start-up businesses to create a sustainable source of livelihood for the youth in the region. Capacity building Mr Agbavitor gave the assurance that under his leadership, regular capacity building training programmes would be organised to equip the executives from constituency to regional level to ensure they were up to the task. This will help in propagating the policies and programmes of the party to the electorate, he stated. Furthermore, he said educational opportunities would be encouraged under his leadership to ensure that the executives who worked for the party were competent to hold higher job positions when they were given challenging government appointments. Political profile From 1989-1991, Mr Agbavitor was at the Ho Zonal CDR Secretariat, and later became founder member and Secretary of the Eagle Club in the Volta Region. He was a member of the Volta Regional NDC Campaign Team for Election 1992. From 19931995 he served as the Volta Regional TEIN Secretary, and in 1996 and 1999, he was the Rapporteur and Transport coordinator at Sunyani and Takoradi NDC Congresses respectively. From 2000-2002, he was the Youth Organiser of the Swedish Chapter of the NDC, Stockholm, and from 2009 till date he has been the St James Branch Secretary (Ho Central Constituency).
