Ayawaso Central NPP MP Disgusted With Gen Secretarys Actions

Hon. Henry Quartey, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central has expressed utter disgust over recent developments in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). Hon. Henry Quartey, speaking on Peace FMs Morning Show "Kokrokoo", condemned the decisions by the party's General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong, who asked the Acting Communications Director of the party Perry Okudzeto to proceed on leave. The General Secretary is also reported to be on a mission to replace old members of the Communication team with his new appointees. Though the Chairman of the party, Paul Afoko has lauded the actions of Kwabena Agyapong, a section of the party leadership, members and supporters have registered their displeasure claiming such decisions may intensify the internal strife in the NPP. Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi, the Ayawaso Central MP believed the supposed letter of leave from the General Secretary to Mr. Okudzeto and news regarding the new appointments of by him (Kwabena Agyapong) is nothing but rumours being peddled around by the General Secretary's sympathizers. According to him, the General Secretary has not been authorized by the party's constitution to take any "unilateral decision" on behalf of the leadership of NPP. He explained that the constitution mandates Mr. Kwabena Agyapong to consult with the National Executive Committee before making such decisions in the party. The General Secretary shall perform his functions in accordance with the directives of the National Executive Committee and the National ChairpersonI seize this opportunity to tell the National Council of Elders, that as a matter of urgency; they should stamp their feet on the ground and resolve the challenges," this he read from Article 9 of the party's constitution. He also outlined some functions of the National Chairman of the party, stating that he is mandated by the constitution to "preside over all meetings of the National Delegates Conference, the National Congress, the National Council, the National Executive Committee and the Steering Committee of the National Executive Committee. In view of this, Hon. Henry Quartey implored Mr. Agyapong to comply with the laws of the party. He should work in conformity with the partys constitution. He bemoaned the misunderstandings that have ensued in the party but however assured the members and supporters that the NPP is still a united body and poised to clinch victory, come 2016. This notwithstanding, armed men wielding machetes and dangerous weapons on Tuesday stormed the New Patriotic Party's headquarters with intent of attacking their National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong. The two executives were addressing a press conference on the recent wranglings in the party when the armed men barged in.
