Termites Destroys Physically Disabled Chalk Warehouse

The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled, has complained that termites are destroying cartons of chalk produced by the society in their warehouse in Accra. Mr Elvis Kosi Alipui, Production Manager of the Chalk Factory operating under the society noted that so far 18,000 boxes of chalk have been destroyed by the termites. According to him the spate of destruction is hampering the societys ability to supply the Ghana Education Service, its main clientele with the needed quantity of their products. Mr Alipui made this known when the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), United Kingdom (UK) branch presented a cheque for GH₡ 2,000.00 to the society on Wednesday. According to the production manager, the society normally secured loans from banks in order to produce large quantity of chalk for supply noting that the interest on the loan is too much for them. Mr Alipui noted that the society spent GH₡ 50.00 in procuring insecticide every week to spray off the termites, which have taken over their wooden warehouse on the compound. He said the society therefore needs the support public-spirited individuals and organisations to assist them in their production. He pointed out that the society also calls for more machines so they could also meet the demand on the market. The production manager said because of the financial constraints some of their personnel have been sent home since the society was unable to pay them. So far we have staff strength of 13 because of these problems we have asked some of them to go home, he stressed. These notwithstanding, Mr Alipui said the society have to supply more than 250,000 boxes annually and could do more if the needed logistics were in place. Mr Joe Ala Adjetey, Vice President of CIM, UK noted that the donation was to assist members of the society in their chalk production. He said although the donation was not too big, the gesture would mark the beginning of a good relationship between the society and CIM, UK.
