We Feel Ashamed...

The Progressive People's Party (PPP) has said it feels ashamed about destructive events happening within the New Patriotic Party. In a statement signed by the partys youth coordinator, it said the PPP had taken note of the destructive events happening within the ranks of some political parties in Ghana and we simply wish to assert that we feel ashamed about these happenings. The Ghanaian public on Tuesday were left in total shock and disbelief when a press briefing called by the Chairman and the General Secretary of the NPP, Mr Paul Afoko and Mr Kwabena Agyepong respectively turned chaotic. The hearts of many lovers of democracy were broken when the headquarters of the NPP became the scene of mayhem. This was when some angry security guards (Invisible Forces) of the party stormed the premises wielding machetes and beat up alleged security details of Mr Kwabena Agyepong. Their anger was fuelled by a directive given to Mr Perry Okudzeto, the partys acting Communications Director, to proceed on leave. We condemn the violence, destruction, anger and hate exhibited at the NPP headquarters yesterday. It is obvious that the NPP has set aside the multiple problems Ghanaians are confronted with and have chosen rather to concentrate on infighting and winning power within their party. When will NPP find the time to seek solutions to save Ghana from the mismanagement going on now? the PPP asked. According to the PPP, President John Mahama and the NDC have sat down (some say encouraged) while its members go about insulting respected members of the society. The intolerance and arrogance demonstrated by Presidential staffers and so-called NDC communicators are beyond comprehension. We want Ghanaians to take note also and join the PPP to say enough is enough. It is time for change. Ghanaians have had enough of the NDC-NPP impunity, arrogance and insatiable thirst for power while the people go hungry and stay jobless. Alan John Kyerematen Relatedly, a presidential aspirant of the NPP, Mr Alan Kwadjo Kyerematen, has said that he is deeply saddened by the events. The altercation that ensued disrupted the meeting and has caused a lot of worry to party members across the country, he stated. He, therefore, called for calm among the rank and file of the party and asked that we are cautious in our pronouncements, especially on the airwaves and in the print media. Now is not the time to engage in blame games in order not to play into the hands of our opponents and lose focus of our greater goal of winning power in 2016. I wish all party members, including the national executive, would use laid-down rules and regulations to resolve any misunderstandings to ensure our forward march to victory 2016, he concluded.
