The Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG), has finally called off its three-month-long strike over research and book allowance. Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) members have been on strike since May 15, 2014 over the non-payment of their book and research allowances since 2013. Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, the General Secretary of POTAG, Ibrahim Adamu disclosed that both parties (government and POTAG) has reached an agreement after a meeting which took place on Tuesday. He indicated that the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at an emergency meeting called by the Employment and Labour Relations Ministry. "POTAG will soon come out with a press release to that effect; after we meet with the rest of our members," he indicated. Meanwhile, the President of POTAG, James Dugrah has urged government to keep their side of the bargain by paying the research and book allowance in the shortest possible time. In an interview on Joy FM, he remarked: "We think that it is good for us to compromise our position and we are very hopeful that government will not renege on her responsibilities to make sure that our book and research allowance especially, for the 2013/2014 academic year is paid as promised within the shortest possible time". The Employment Minister, Haruna Iddrisu at the meeting assured that �government will endeavour to facilitate and complete the payment of the arrears before the end of the fiscal year, 2014.�
