Shake Up: Prez Mahama Makes New Appointments

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated former Interior Minister and also a former Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotions Centre, Kwesi Ahwoi as Ghana's ambassador to South Africa. Sulley Gariba, a Senior Policy Coordinator at the Office of the President will also be heading to Canada. Dr Gariba is a policy, governance and evaluation specialist with over 30 years' experience in providing governance and strategic advice to governments, regional and International institutions. A statement issued by the Flagstaff House indicates that these two new ambassadorial nominees have been submitted to the Council of State for consideration and approval. Meanwhile, the President has also nominated a former Finance Minister, Dr Kwesi Botchwey, as chair of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC). He will be taking over from the late P. V. Obeng who died of Asthmatic attack in May this year. Dr Nii Moi Thompson has also been appointed as the new acting Director-General of the NDPC. Until his appointment, Dr. Thompson was an Economic Adviser to the President.
