The government has given approval for the Police Administration to enter into Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements to help address the accommodation challenges facing the Ghana Police Service. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Alhassan, who announced this in Accra yesterday, said under the arrangement, some lands of the Ghana Police Service would be developed for business purposes and for the construction of housing units for personnel of the service. He was speaking at the inauguration of the paved forecourt of the Accra Regional Police Command. The paving of the forecourt was sponsored by the African Support Network (ASN), a financial and construction firm. He commended the management of ASN company for funding the refurbishment of the forecourt, and called on other organisations to support the service. Challenges/public support While acknowledging the challenges facing the service, Mr Alhassan advised regional and district commands to seek support from the communities in which they operated to enhance their service delivery. He cited the construction and refurbishment of police stations at Kwabenya and Adentan in Accra as examples of private support to the service. According to Mr Alhassan, most of the facilities of the service were being overused and added that the leadership of the service was working expeditiously to expand the facilities of the service. Service delivery The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Christian Tetteh Yohonu, said facilities for the region had not grown in tandem with the challenges of policing. �That notwithstanding, the region has been able to deliver and enhance performance within the constraint, knowing well that the government cannot do it alone,� he said. For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of ASN, Mr Prince Sarpong, pledged the company�s commitment to partner the police service in the performance of its duties.
