Horace Ankrah Tells Commission GHȻ34 Never Changed To $35

The chairman of the Grounds, Events and Logistics sub-committee of Ghanas participation in the 2014 World Cup, Mr Horace Ankrah has told the Justice Dzamefe Commission that he was not given the chance to explain how GHȻ34 changed to $35 when he appeared before it on Tuesday. According to him, proceedings on Tuesday actually belied the posturing of the commission as a fact finding commission. Mr Ankrah who was in the witness box on Tuesday had laboured to explain to the Presidential Commission probing Ghanas participation in the 2014 Brazil World Cup some discrepancies in the figure that was quoted as what was spent on feeding supporters that were airlifted to Brazil. However, when he returned Wednesday morning he said the Commission of Inquiry from its proceedings on Tuesday had created the impression that the World Cup money was massaged. I was not given the chance to explain. GHȻ34 never changed to $35 We never changed any Ghana cedis just like that to $35. I think that yesterday, what happened was actually a different picture of what probably the commission has been painting that they are a fact finding commission. I was judged straight away that I have changed a GHȻ34 figure to $35 fee. The Commissions chair, Justice Senyo Dzamefe however explained that the commission did not say he (Horace) personally had changed anything but the committee he headed. Mr Ankrah stated that the impression created in the media was that World Cup cash had been massaged by him. But Justice Dzamefe said Mr Ankrah cannot blame the commission for what the newspapers had reported. Justice Dzamefe said Mr Ankrah had told the commission that it was at the Ministry of Youth and Sports where the figure was changed and that he did not know the reasons. Mr Ankrah however told the commission that he had explanations to that and prayed the commission to give him the opportunity to do so. The hearing is ongoing.
