Ebola: Church Uses Gloves To Serve Communion

The Central Assembly of the Church of Pentecost, Darkuman District in Accra, declared war on cholera and Ebola outbreak. The assembly provided sanitizers to be used by members before going for The Lords Supper. The members were also not allowed to pick the slices of bread from the communion bowls with their hands; a situation which previously was the norm. The members of the congregation were also given tissues with which they received their communion breads. Meanwhile, the officers of the church who served the congregation were also not allowed to do so with bare hands, which was the norm. According to the District Pastor, Reverend Samuel Berko, the changes were introduced to safeguard the health of members in the assembly and to minimise the spread of cholera among church members. The Lords Supper service lasted longer than usual due to the newly introduced procedures, but Rev Berko admonished the congregation to brace the new changes as one of the measures to prevent cholera and Ebola. The Ebola scare has caught up with several institutions and many are putting structures in place in the event of any outbreak and it seems the Darkuman branch of the Church of Pentecost is one of such institutions. During the churchs Lords Supper service, officiating deacons and deaconesses wore gloves to serve members while the normal wine glasses were also abandoned for disposal cups. Rev Berko said the introduction of those changes does not only come to combat cholera and Ebola, but it has become necessary that individuals and institutions seek purity in their dealings.
