The deceased has been identified as Stephen Adonteng, aged 35, who was resident at Amasaman, while 32 year-old Nana Agyeman Ben, from Asante Mampong, but resident at Amasaman, is the injured. Their accomplices are, however, on the run. Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Superintendent George Andrew Kumah, Police Commander in-charge of the Amasaman Police Station, said Agyeman, who is police custody, sustained injury to his head and leg and had been treated at Nsawam Government Hospital. Superintendent Kumah said the Police had a tip off at about 0600 hours that some armed robbers were attacking the people of Pobiman, so some officers were detailed to the area. But, according to the Commander, the robbers started firing their guns immediately they saw the Police, who also returned the fire, and succeeded in over powering the robbers. The Police, subsequently, seized two riffles, 32 bullets and other dangerous operational weapons from them. The Commander said $2000 and GH720 were also retrieved from the armed robbers. Chief Superintendent Aboagye Nyarko, in- charge of the Tesano Division of Police, commended the Amasaman Police for their efforts and urged them to pursue and arrest the accomplices, who were on the run. The body of Adonteng has, meanwhile, been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy.
