NDC Chair Aspirant Devotes GH1m For Health

AN ASPIRING Greater Accra regional chairmanship candidate of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Stephen Akwetey has put down the sum of GH1 million as seed money for his health programme for the region. This, he said is to provide the platform for the underprivileged staunch members of the party to receive support from the party to ensure that their children are given the necessary health and educational support for a Better Ghana. At the official launch of health and educational fund together with his chairmanship bid, the former constituency chairman of the Krowor Constituency said his priorities are on education and health without which the masses and the poor cannot compete. Addressing the large gathering on the theme, Reviving Righteousness for Greater Works, he said people have been denied what they rightfully deserve within the party in the past and the time has come to avert such treatments. It is for this basic reason that after broad and careful consultations, I have decided to create a special purpose fund to be called, 'The Greater Accra NDC Education Fund to practically ensure that the poor and the marginalized within the fold of our great party are not left out in this fast pacing world of today. Mr. Akwetey said the fund will operate through the structures of the party and all the 34 constituencies in the region will benefit from it. The fund, he said will be independently run by a secretariat of competent administrators whose main job will be to asses and disburse whatever assistance requested for by the constituencies on behalf of their people, and that the composition of the board will cut across all levels with MPs, DCE/MCE nominating two persons each and the others from the region, cadres and other movements of the party will nominate one each. Touching on health, he said the challenge sometimes is how to pay for necessary health care if one does not have the means to, adding, It is in the light of this and the need to be each other's keeper in times of sickness that I have also established the Greater Accra NDC Health Fund to basically ensure some relief for our party followers who for one reason or the other will require such crucial assistance or intervention in a prompt and responsive manner. He said, Regular health screening and sensitization programmes will also be embarked upon by the secretariat together with the relevant state institutions to consistently raise awareness on major and minor epidemic outbreaks in order to keep a healthy society. The fund he said has been duly registered at the registrars general department and that support in education will focus on senior high school and tertiary students. He told the gathering that it about time the party was re-connected with the grassroots; the base of political and economic power and that political power is not meant for corruptible practices but rather for positive development.
