Western Region To Become Global Center Of Pan-Africanism

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has assured indigenes of the Western Region of government's commitment to developing the region as an important center of pan-Africanism. Speaking at the Western Regional Festival of Arts and Culture 2014, at Sekondi, Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare lauded the contribution of Ghana's first president, Kwame Nkrumah, in promoting unity within Africa and among people of African descent in the diaspora. She said, her ministry is poised to upgrading tourist sites in the region, including the late president's birthplace, Nkroful, to attract visitors from all over the world. She said, Dr. Nkrumah's legacy and name can be utilized effectively as a brand to sell the region to the outside world, as an important tourist destination. Speaking on the theme: The Creative Arts and Tourism Industry, A Platform for National Development, the Western Regional director of the Center for National Culture, Stephen Sedovu, made an appeal to government to prioritize the completion of work on the Western Regional Theater, located at Fijai, to serve as a venue for educational programmes, as well as a market center for art dealers. He said Ghanaian cultural values must be promoted to reverse the situation where the nation is gradually becoming ungovernable, due to an increasing population of culturally-deficient young people.
