In The Matter Of Alleged $4m Fraud: Court Holds SuretiesAs Suspect Jumps Bail

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Police Headquarters has indicated their intention to put before court today 23rd September 2014, the two Ghanaian sureties who granted bail to Jude Mathias Alistair, a Canadian Businessman involved in the alleged $4M gold business that went bad between the latter and Guldrest Resources Company Limited owned by Henry Osei. Alistair Jude Mathias, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of M.A Resources Limited in the Eastern Region, was arrested on June 24, 2014 this year by the Commercial Crime Unit (CCRU) of the CID after Henry Osei lodged official complaint at the Police Headquarters when his efforts to recover his money failed. The Canadian was however granted bail with two sureties, namely Mustapha Ghande and Joel Nettey in compliance with the 48hour rule while investigations continued. According to the Director of CCRU, Superintendent Felix Mawusi, the Polices action to put the sureties before court today is premised on the fact that the suspect was asked to keep reporting to the police to assist in the investigations but has failed to do so in over a month and had returned to Dubai. Later, he was said to have called to explain that a civil case against him in Dubai was also pending and he needed to go there to answer the charges. Again Supt. Mawusi noted that Jude Mathias Alistair promised to return to Ghana within a week but failed to do so and all efforts by the police to arrest him have so far proven futile hence the resolve to put the sureties before court to produce the suspect. Meanwhile reacting through his solicitors, Kunlendi @ Law to our earlier publication titled Canadian Dupes Ghanaian Businessman $4M? Mr. Mathias denied the story flatly without stating particular reasons in reference to the substance of the allegations against him at the Police Headquarters. The lawyers stated in a letter dated September 16, 2014 and delivered yesterday, September 18, that It is our reasoned opinion that the banner headline as represented to the entire Ghanaian populace is defamatory of our clients hard earned reputation as an internationally acclaimed businessman of sterling integrity and honour as same is untrue and represents our client as a fraudster. According to Mr. Jude Mathias solicitors, This publication has not only damaged our clients reputation, both locally and internationally, but has also caused and is still causing him psychological and emotional trauma together with his young family. The said publication has subjected him to public opprobrium and shuns, extreme embarrassment and caused him great hardship and expense. Mr. Mathias claims he had not been involved in any fraudulent deals in his gold business and therefore the publication was not true.
