2 Killed In Building Collapse

TWO CHILDREN were reported dead when a clay building collapsed at Wanabenya, a community in the Ayensuano district of the Eastern region. The deceased were identified as seven-year-old Bright Tetteh and his four-year-old junior brother, Joseph Okuben. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Suhum Government Hospital Morgue. The Mother, Eunice Okuben ,25 years and a 5-month-old baby, Michael Okubeng sustained serious injuries and have been hospitalized at Suhum Government Hospital receiving treatment. The DAILY HERITAGE gathered that the incident occurred at around 9:30pm after a heavy downpour in the area on Monday. Sources said the incident happened when the family got prepared to sleep. A witness said, the building suddenly caved in on the family and attempts by residents to rescue the family only saved two while two died. He said the injured were rushed to the Suhum government hospital. The Ayensuano district director of the National Disaster Management Organization, Michael S.D. Kodua confirmed the incident and added that the organization is collaborating with the police for further investigations. He advised that residents in the district observe carefully conditions of their buildings and immediately undertake maintenance works to avert any unforeseen circumstances.
