FDA Warns Against Adomfe Water

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has warned the general public, against the distribution and sale of packaged water, Adomfe Water which is being sold, as having medicinal properties. It said, its �investigations revealed that the product is being sold in some parts of the country in moving vans and market centres and claimed to be for the treatment of various diseases including stroke, infertility, cardiovascular diseases etc�. A statement signed by Hudu Mogtari, Chief Executive of FDA said it �it must be noted that the product, ADOMFE WATER is ordinary water with no therapeutic properties and therefore the claims being made are deceptive�. It explained that, �Schedule Five of the Public Health Act 2012 (Act 851) does not allow any food product, which includes water, to be sold as a medicinal product under any circumstance�. Meanwhile, the FDA has seized a quantity of the said unregistered water in the Brong Ahafo Region. �Furthermore, the general public is hereby cautioned against the patronage of this water since the FDA cannot guarantee its safety, quality and efficacy and those distributing the said water are also to note that it is a criminal offence to offer for sale products that have not been given approval by the FDA�, it said.
