Allotey Jacobs Asks Ghanaians To Keep Quiet And Accept Utility Tariffs

Bernard Allotey Jacobs, a former Board Member of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has accused Ghanaians and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of talking too much when it comes to actions or decisions made by the Mahama-led administration. He was reacting to the recent utility increment announced on Tuesday, 20th September, 2014. The PURC, on Tuesday, announced a 6.54 percent increase in electricity tariff and a 4.54 percent increase in water tariff. This is about the third time in 2014 that the Commission has increased tariffs for electricity and water. The PURC has explained that the latest increment is due to the shift to crude oil for power generation following low volume of gas supply from Nigeria. We should accept the increment in good faith. We should pay realistic pricesDemand is outstripping supply or generation of power in the country. People are building every day Allotey Jacobs told Kwami Sefa Kayi on Wednesdays edition of Kokrokoo. As expected, Ghanaians welcomed the announcement of the tariff increment with rage especially as services being provided by the utility providers are unimpressive. However, the Central Regional Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked Ghanaians especially the NPP to stop complaining and rather embrace the decisions of the Mahama-led administration. It is for us to sacrifice for mother Ghana and stop talking too much. We have become prophets of doom; doubting Thomases; as if that is the end of Ghana but that will not happen. God is with this country and by His grace things will get better he intimated.
