Officials of the Land Administration Project (LAP) in the Upper West Region have advised land owners to register their lands to assist the Commission to implement land policies successfully.
According to the officials, the registration of land and properties in the region has been reducing for the past three years.
Mr. Yaw Acheampong Amoah, Regional Project Coordinator, said who said this at a meeting between LAP officials and other land stakeholders, in Wa, said in 2012 the Region recorded a total of 98 registered lands; 85 in 2013; and 30 so far in 2014.
The forum, which was organised by Better Life and Trust Foundation with support from Civil Society Coalition on land (CICOL), provided update on the progress of the implementation of LAP in the region.
Mr. Amoah said strengthening the policy, legal and regulatory framework and the improvement of maps and spatial data for land administration were some of the components of the project.
Mr. Kombian Samuel Fant, the Commission�s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, said the Commission had been able to engage the Judiciary to elaborate and discuss issues to improve land service delivery.
He said workshops on sensitization and capacity building had also been organized for paramount chiefs and queenmothers.
He, however, said the delay in the release of funds and inadequate staff were challenges of the Commission and appealed to the Government to provide laptops and accessories to enhance their work.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has the overall responsibility for the implementation of the Ghana Land Administration Project.
According to the Ministry�s official document, the first phase of the Project (LAP-1) launched in 2003, for the first five years is in response to the commitment by the Government of Ghana to use the Land Administration Programme to reduce poverty and enhance economic-social growth by improving security of tenure, simplifying the process of acquiring land by the populace, developing the land market and fostering prudent land management.
