Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has asked Ghanaians not take the peace they are enjoying for granted. He also advised the youth to endeavour to live in peace and shun indiscipline, criminality and immorality. Vice President Amissah-Arthur made the request when he joined hundreds of Muslims faithful to mark this years� Eid-Al-Adha celebration in Takoradi. The Eid-Al-Adha is a feast of sacrifice in honour of Prophet Ibrahim, who according to the Islamic tradition was prepared to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of faith and a sign of total obedience to Allah. Vice President Amissah-Arthur also called on Muslims to offer special prayers for the peace and continued political and socio-economic development of the country. He reminded the Muslim faithful to remember that the Eid-Al-Adha celebration is a feast sacrifice, obedience and love. �Let us bear in mind that the unconditional obedience of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son and the teachings of the Holy Quran offer guidance on how the faithful can abundant blessings and favour from Allah.� Vice President Amissah-Arthur urged the Muslim faithful to dedicate themselves to the study of the teachings of the Holy Prophet Mohammed and be guided by the spiritual values and moral precepts that he cherished and passionately advocated so that peace, social justice, tolerance and equality would prevail in our homes, communities and the country. He said Muslims are celebrating the feast of sacrifice with thousands of their compatriots in Saudi Arabia who are undertaking this year�s Hajj in Mecca in fulfilment of the fifth and final pillar of Islam. He urged Muslims to pray to the Almighty Allah to grant them journeying mercies for their safe return. Vice President Amissah-Arthur also commended National Hajj Committee for organising one of the most peaceful and serene pilgrimages in the recent history of the country. He pledged the government�s continued support to the Hajj Committee in the years to come. He said without peace, we cannot provide the roads, the hospitals, potable water and the well-equipped schools we all need for productive lives. Vice President Amissah-Arthur said measures government put in place to resuscitate the economy are beginning to show positive signs as the cedi is regaining some of the lost grounds to the major international currencies particularly the dollar. He said government has also started discussion with the International Monetary Fund on a possible programme that could be supported by the Fund. He expressed the hope that the discussions would be concluded soon to breathe more energy into the economy. Sheikh Utah Ali Hassan Ali, Western Regional Chief Imam called on Muslims to pray for the peace and development of the country. He urged them to extend a hand of friendship to each other during the period of the celebration as well as live in peace with the various religious faiths. He asked Muslims to pray for the strengthening of the Cedi as it has shown signs of recovery.
