The Gomoa West District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, has appealed to fishermen to stop the use of dynamites and other illegal fishing methods to avoid the depletion of fish stock in the sea.
According to him, the use of illegal fishing methods were resulting in dwindling fish catch, thus gradually throwing fishermen out of business.
The DCE was addressing the Apam No Two Dentsefo Asafo Company at a durbar marking part of their Annual Akwambo festival at Apam.
The use of undersized fishing nets, lights, and pair trawling have been identified by the fisheries experts as inimical to the industry.
He said efforts were being made to release to them all their fishing inputs seized by the Navy recently.
He warned, however, that that those types of the inputs should not be used again, saying that the Government was, therefore, importing new fishing inputs to enhance their operations.
Mr Aidoo-Mensah announced that a task force had been set up along the Apam beaches to screen fishermen arriving by sea from Liberia and Guinea to detect those with Ebola.
The Queen mother of Apam, Nana Essel Botwe III, spoke against young men defiling girls under 16 and rape as well as teenage pregnancy.
Parents of such culprits would be sanctioned, she warned.
