I Cannot Sell My 19 Children To Pay Players Alhaji Grunsah

The owner of King Faisal football club, Alhaji Grunsah, has revealed that he pays his players about Gh₵80 per match. He said this when he appeared before the Dzamefe Commission of Enquiry, which is investigating Black Stars participation at the Brazil 2014 World Cup. Alhaji Grunsah was sharing his views on the challenges confronting Ghana football and their potential solutions. Touching on poor remuneration for footballers, he said poor patronage of league matches continues to put club owners in a difficult financial position. He said until the situation improved, players would continue to earn meagre wages. Alhaji Grunsah said though other clubs were paying their players up to GHc₵100 per match, he could not afford to pay more than Gh₵80. He said his club sometimes earns as low as Gh₵6 from gate proceeds during matches. If I play match and get six cedis, how much you expect me to pay [players]? he asked. He added that he had 19 children and could not sell them to pay players better wages.Only God knows how I manage the team [in spite of the challenges], he added.
