Pregnant Women Being Ferried In Trolleys At La Hospital

Expectant mothers seeking medical attention at Ghana hospitals are being ferried in trolleys as a result of a dire shortage of wheelchairs and dysfunctional elevators, it has emerged. According to local media, among the hospitals worst hit is the La General Hospital in Accra where it is claimed patients could not manage to climb the stairs to the second floor hence ferrying them in trolleys. La General Hospital accommodates critical wards comprising Surgical, Labour and Medical on the second floor. La General Hospital Medical Director, Dr Patrick Frimpong, confirmed the development to media saying the situation was disheartening and frustrating. Successive Health Ministers have visited us to get first-hand information on the situation of the lift and the general condition of the hospital, but nothing positive has come out of the visits so far . The latest high-profile visitor is President John Dramani Mahama, who directed the hospital to contact the Ministry of Health, and that is how far our appeal has reached, Dr Frimpong told local media.
