NSS Rot: Prez Mahama Appoints Caretaker Boss

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Michael Kpessa Whyte as an interim Executive Director of the National Service Scheme. Dr Whyte will stand in until a substantive Executive Director is appointed. The Executive Director, Alhaji Imoro Alhassan and 26 others were directed to step aside after the Bureau for National Investigation (BNI) uncovered an alleged fraud at the scheme. Per the findings of the BNI, about GHC7.9 million was paid to 22,612 non-existent national service persons in more than 100 districts in July 2014. In an interview with Deputy Minister In charge of Tertiary Education, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa on PEACE FM, he disclosed that per an interim report from the BNI, the amount misapplied is more than GHC7.9 million. According to him, the rot is deeper than what it seems. Dr Whyte, a Presidential staffer is supposed to clean the secretariat and bring it back on its feet while investigation continues. Dr. Kpessah Whyte has a background in Governance, Institutional Design, Social Policy & Public Administration and is a member of the Policy Team at the Presidency.
