Dep. Public Affairs Director 'Begs' ECG: Exclude Parliament From Load Shedding

The Deputy Director of Public Affairs in parliament, Kate Addo has appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to possibly exclude Parliament from load shedding. Madam Addo speaking exclusively to Adomonline.com said, her call is necessary as a means of enhancing the smooth operation of the legislature. we will plead with ECG that as much as possible if it is okay, parliament should be exempt from the load shedding, she said. She however said, the legislature would be willing to sacrifice if indeed the situation is that parliament cannot be exempted from the load shedding. Parliament yesterday experienced power cut in the morning which led to a delay of work for more than two hours. A major effect was when a scheduled press conference by the minority members was nearly called off due to the lack of electricity to correct and print out copies of statements for reporters. But this problem, the deputy public affairs director continued did not really affect work in the legislature. She attributed the delay in the restoration of power to the legislative house to a failure of a battery of the standby generator set in the house. Our standby generator could not kick in immediately the ECG line went off because the battery was not functioning and we had to go in for a new one hence the delay, she said.
